Drug Rehab Centre: Research & Development

At Searidge Drug Rehab we are committed to furthering research-based drug addiction treatment and maintain an up to date program current to any new developments in the field.

LAUGHTER THERAPY

Laughter induces exactly the same reactions in the brain as drug use and has incredibly therapeutic results on the mind, body and soul. While initially participating in such a therapy might seem forced, the laughter quickly becomes contagious, making it ideal for group sessions. Under the guidance of laughologist and renowned documentary filmmaker Albert Nerenberg, our laughter therapy sessions have proven very successful.

COGNITIVE BIAS MODIFICATION

Cognitive Bias Modification is a new type of therapy that is primarily computer-based.  During therapy sessions our residents use a joystick to respond to a series of images they are shown on a computer screen by either ‘pulling towards’ or ‘pushing away’ from the image. In the case of an image demonstrating drug abuse, this would require the pushing away movement, which trains the brain to both physically and mentally reject harmful behaviour. Repeating this process helps train the brain to automatically push away from the image and its real-life equivalent. It has been proven that CBM has resulted in higher rates of recovery when used in conjunction with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

MCGILL UNIVERSITY RESEARCH INTO PTSD AND ADDICTION MEMORY

Searidge Drug Rehab and its sister center in Quebec, Sobriety Home support research conducted by Dr. Alain Brunet at McGill University on PTSD and addiction memory. This research is investigating ways in which to ‘tone down’ the effects of PTSD and addiction on memory in order to allow those affected to live a more bearable life. So far the study has enjoyed promising results - the study has been featured in a number of prominent media establishments.
