Drug Rehab Pharmacotherapy & Medical Treatments

Searidge Alcohol Rehab’s pharmacotherapy and medical treatment program strives to support and guide residents to revovery. Research demonstrates that it is crucial for the successful treatment of drug addiction to approach recovery with a fully comprehensive approach. Those with drug addiction problems require a variety of treatment options including psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy (if needed), participation in support groups, family therapy, psychiatric treatment, alternative therapy and a health oriented approach to nutrition in order to recover fully.

Pharmacotherapy employs the use of effective and well researched medications. It can give those in drug addiction recovery the boost they need to be ready to engage in our other treatments. It also gives hope to those who have relapsed and continue to struggle with drug abuse. Pharmacotherapy treatments can have the following results:

  1. Block the effects of drugs on the brain
  2. Block the euphoria or subduing effects of drugs
  3. Decrease the physical symptoms of drug withdrawal
  4. Decrease cravings

If pharmacotherapy is needed, our clinical team is very experienced and well-qualified to work with such anti-medications such as naltrexone, methadone and suboxone to support recovery from drug addiction.

Our resident nurse, local physician and consulting psychiatrist collaborate to ensure that our residents at Searidge Drug Rehab are safe and well cared for.

OPIOID ADDICTION PHARMACOTHERAPY

Naltrexone (Revia®)

Naltrexone is primarily used for the management of alcohol dependence or opioid addiction. It has been proven to significantly reduce the risk of relapse by reducing withdrawal symptoms and cravings. In the case of opioid abuse, naltrexone is effective in blocking the euphoria often associated with abusing opioids.

Methadone

Methadone is a synthetic opioid that is used as anti-addiction medication for residents with an opioid dependency such heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, oxymorphone, fentanyl and many more. Methadone helps to stabilise withdrawal symptoms during detox and helps recovering addicts manage their cravings. It also bocks the euphoric high associated with other opioids.

Methadone addiction treatment can either be a short term program or a longer term program. It is used to assist the detox process, and can help manage symptoms of recovery and support residents in maintaining sobriety. Our clinical staff at Searidge Drug Rehab have a Methadone Reduciton Program to assist residents in taking the next step towards a full recovery.

Buprenorphine (Suboxone®)

Suboxone is a semi-synthetic opioid used to treat opioid addiction, including heroin, Oxycontin (oxycodone) and morphine, among many others. Suboxone is a combination medication comprised of buprenorphine and naloxone. At Searidge suboxone is used to assist residents through detox by reducing the withdrawal symptoms and cravings during treatment. Combined with therapy, suboxone can be effective in treating dependence.

BENZODIAZEPINE ADDICTION PHARMACOTHERAPY

Ashton Protocol

The clinical staff at Searidge Drug Rehab follows a modified version of the Ashton Protocol.

COCAINE ADDICTION PHARMACOTHERAPY

In conjunction with cognitive behavioural therapy psychotherapy and alternative therapies we offer pharmacotherapy to support recovery from cocaine addiction. We work with each individual resident to ensure that they will be given the most effective treatment program for them.

Concurrent Disorders

Our consulting psychiatrist is available to diagnose and address psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder and ADD.

We at Searidge are equipped to treat these psychological disorders alongside alcohol addiction treatment. This dual approach is important as many psychological disorders often results in self-medication leading to drug or alcohol abuse.

General Alcohol Rehab Health Needs

Searidge Alcohol Rehab is also prepared to address general health needs for residents during their stay at our center. We are well equipped and experienced with conducting alcohol detoxification in a safe manner on site.
