Valentine’s Day in Drug Rehab

By: Carol Morriscey

Valentine’s Day During Addiction

Though Valentine’s Day is supposed to be all about love, it can be a very challenging time, especially for those in recovery or currently suffering from addiction. Addiction creates a barrier in the lives of those affected, making it difficult to maintain or build meaningful relationships. As a result, Valentine’s Day may be an unwelcome reminder of the havoc wreaked by addiction on personal relationships. Alternatively, however, Valentine’s Day also presents an opportunity to begin rebuilding lives and damaged relationships.

An Opportunity for a New Beginning

The most important person to express love for is yourself! Beginning an addiction treatment program speaks volumes about the love you have for yourself, by seeking an opportunity for an improved life! But the process must continue, and is a crucial factor in ensuring a sustained recovery from addiction. Take the opportunity Valentine’s Day offers to consider how you express the love you have for yourself. Do you engage in negative self-talk? Do you take the time to take care of yourself? Begin new practices this year, think about yourself positively, take care of yourself, and allow yourself to be proud of how far you have come in the addiction recovery process.

Rebuilding Relationships During and Following Addiction Treatment

Valentine’s is the perfect opportunity to reach out to those who you have hurt and apologize for your mistakes. The support received from loved ones is indispensable in addiction treatment. Rebuilding relationships is an important step in the addiction treatment process, and will allow for a fresh start after rehab. Reach out to those who continue to support you during your journey through rehab to sobriety to thank them. Reach out to those who you have hurt and apologize.

At Searidge Drug Rehab, we are here to support you through each step. It is never easy, but you are never alone!
